Abbie's first post

After the first art critique I focused on making the piece more personal towards me. I plan on doing multiples pieces still focused on the lgtbqa+ community that i'm apart of and experiences that me and many others face to a day to day basis. I've even started to reach out to other members of the community to get opinions and experience. Back to my first piece, I wanted this piece to focus on gender and femininity. How I feel trapped by society to act more feminine, wear makeup, dresses, heels. How my family also tries to enforce this, and how only in my friend group and in college i have felt like I've been able to  be myself. The picture below shows a reflection with hands pressed against them to suggest this feeling. It shows the expectations of society, with the long hair i'm expected to have and how trapped I feel. The roses, still a work in progress to look cleaner, they will also have rose petals falling from the eyes. Roses are red, and because they are falling it represents blood sweat and tears over trying to be what society wants you to be
