Emily Schumann: Update

Okay so as of right now, I have almost all of my oil paintings in progress, or at least done to a point where I know exactly where I'm going to go with them. I figured out what to do with the underwater one -- it will be a bluefin tuna snagged in a fishing net and interacting with a diver. I think compositionally it will work much better than what I had before. I also have a new rhino piece which centers on the plight of the White Rhino, of which there are only 6 left in the world. Additionally, I'd like to complete one that focuses on birds, but I still have yet to narrow down a species for that.

My cards are coming along nicely -- I have all of them drawn and 23 fully painted (I might go back in and add more layers of acrylics once I finish all of them, but that will happen over break). I was talking to peers yesterday who suggested displaying them on a poker table that I can manufacture and arrange the cards by "hands" on the table. I really like that idea and would like to make up some sketches over break and possibly put something together. Other than that, I think I'm in pretty good shape. I'm going to tackle my two sculptural pieces over Christmas and dive back into the oil paintings in the spring.

I'm really excited about the body of work as a whole, and think it will come together nicely.
