Nam's update no. 4

Following up on the previous post, below are some of the examples I have been working on for the "lost benefits" concept.

First one is rather fleshed out. However, I'm considering either changing the visual to make it look actually tacky, or altering the tone of the copy to make it more positive. The caption (i.e. Out of Style, Out of Mind) can also be rather confusing, so that's likely to change as well.

I also had the idea of a person annoyed by a jungle of hands surrounding them, kind of playing on the idea that touching can sometimes be inappropriate even for blind people who need to feel things out.
Which, after I talked with some others about, appeared to be a risky demonstration - one that would likely offend people.

So I came up with a different visual: a blind person getting thrown out of a bar. Inappropriate touching seems more likely as well as more accidental in this context, so offensiveness is less of a concern. However, I'm not sure if the visual is straightforward enough for snap comprehension. The below image is WIP - I need to add some other elements to show it's a blind person. That said, there's also a chance I'll throw it out.

yo the 5th blog!!

Hey guys so, what have I done sine we all met, well I have done research and have ordered materials to begin printing and the mini lights, to put together.
Other than that, I have the same work from yesterday, ill post them just in case you guys didn't get a good luck at them.  Today I will continue to work on what I want to print on the transparent paper and redo the parts of my portraits where the writing is not the best or take out over all.
I can't wait to show my final project!

Nicole's 4th Post

I'm happy with the way things have been turning out. My main issue is convincing myself everything doesn't need to be exactly perfect, precise, and clean. I'm taking a break from all of my digital work for awhile to focus on my ink pieces. I'm excited about these the most, it's been awhile since I've picked up a paintbrush. Still debating whether or not I want to add color.

I do not have much to blog about for today. Im just truckin' on with the paintings. Last night I was able to paint for the first time in a week and almost cried it was fantastic. I have started getting the detailed part of the paintings and the skin all painted since painting skin is my actual least favorite thing (lol i did this to myself). I need to let the skin fully dry before i can go back in and work the eyes and mouth so they look kind of scary right now (doin' a spook spook before Halloween). Tonight we will be getting the mount done for the image of my dad with his guitar. We also will be doing the wood backings for the two large paintings (Spain and Pittsburgh). The image above shows how I would like to position my images on the flow canvases. I want to play with the location of the canvases maybe use diagonal positioning. The bottom image depicts an idea of bigger paintings i would like to create. I have three massive canvases that i would like to do the flow painting with multiple paintings scattered on top. HYPE

Minh Ng. Third Post

Hattie's Third Post

I've been experimenting in the darkroom and some of the pieces I've created have come out really nice! Over Long Weekend I'll be shooting more film so I have more to work with as well as ordering more paper just so it's here before I run out of stuff that Andreas gave me. I really like the portraits of me with the camera, and for the double exposure it was just paper that had been previously exposed, I did not try to do that, but I want to try and do something like that again if I can figure it out. I also want to work on getting more color into my photos.

Helen Ross October 11th

So the past two weeks I have been painting on people and I have two solid photographs that I want to now edit in photoshop. I still need to figure out what I am doing for the back ground. For the midterm critique I have to have 3 fully rendered ones.

I need to work on the backdrop but still need to hear back from that professor.

Nam's third blog post

I have come up with a couple of new ideas, two among which I will be sharing today. The first one I thought would garner public attention, but demonstrating the idea was not simple (I have a mockup attached but the point could get lost). On the other hand, there's a sense of parody in idea #2 that I really like, and I'm going to focus on this more in the days to come.

When blindness takes over

Although technology has made information increasingly accessible to visually impaired people, much of the Internet content is still created without regards to this group of audience. They thus rely heavily on screen reader apps, which have shortcomings of their own.

IDEA: Google, with the biggest search engine on the planet and a no less popular web browser (i.e. Chrome), has the leverage it takes to turn the table and put the sighted users on the spot – the blind spot. Introducing the week “when blindness takes over,” a series of events that challenge the sighted and simultaneously demonstrate the capability of Google’s new app, Lookout.

Featuring a special edition of Google’s search engine, through which all inaccessible sites are blurred, as well as a Google Chrome extension that places a Gaussian blur layer on top of the content. The user can still navigate the content using the “Lookout” tool, which identifies items that the mouse hovers over, whether they are text or images.

Lost perks

IDEA: Blind people will soon lose a significant amount of benefits. Blind people are now treated like the rest of us. Braille signs start to disappear. People stop giving way to the blind. They no longer get personal assistants when going to the groceries, etc.

The last two, one of them I manipulated in photoshop and have a "painting" image but I plan to further add things with illustrator.
The last one is one of the images I am working on currently to my portrait.

Finally began my painting.  It is 36x18. The left side is going to represent a rustic landscape, and the right side is going to represent an urban area. The right side will have a beach and cities at the horizon line. This is kind of a first base layer for the painting.

My goal is to show differentiation throughout the painting (within the clouds and water especially) while maintain the "morphed" feel of the painting; the two territories will be represented as one! So ill add some big clouds to the below side. the city side will remain somewhat flat.

Below, I got started on the ocean, I will most likely add some more greens.

I'm just about done with this project and will be starting a new project sometime this week. I want to incorporate photography and photoshop into this project. So with that, I will begin shooting for the next project. I will be giving you guys more ideas and visuals for next project in the next blog. Everything right now is an idea to me.

Nicole's 3rd Post

Things are happening (finally)!

I've been doing a little bit of everything; photography, photoshop, drawing. I have 4 different series going. Hopefully I'll be able to get even more photos this weekend while I'm home. I'm excited and happy with how everything has turned out so far, just hesitant to start my watercolors. Also, if anyone knows how to get rid of the electric pink/green lines on the telephone pic below, I'd really appreciate input, it's driving me crazy.
