Emily Schumann: Progress

Alright, so my body of work is coming along pretty well. I dove into the large mural and completely changed my idea. Instead of a mural of eyes, I'll be painting a large portrait of an elephant with indian makeup for celebratory parades, and within the designs will be rendered portraits of the other endangered species of the world. I think having a giant elephant face is more humanizing and works better composition-wise than a bunch of eyes. The orangutan painting is almost complete -- I just need to work on the hand and the bottom section a little more, but I'm very happy with how that's coming along.
I decided to add another factor to my body of work: a card deck with sketches to depict endangered species at all stages of their lives -- in the wild, interacting with humans, and the result of human action on their lives. I picture that part being titled "Play Your Hand."
The rhino painting is coming along, I just need to go back in with layers and washes to tone down the details and bring the two portraits forward in the piece. The porpoise painting I completely covered, aside from the boats at the top, because I want to rework that image and its composition.
Overall, I'm pretty optimistic with my progress. I'm looking forward to seeing how this grows more as I continue.
