"I love fantasizing, I love inventing and creating. I think the real world is flat, not original and very negative. If art does not lead us to a different world in which we all live, it does not meet its mission. I am passionate about the dream and magic that surround our thoughts. If we can express ourselves, we should do that." - Vincent Bourilhon

Panoramic-ish view of the unfinished end. The rest of it is done. I'm almost done with that step. I am in debate as to how I want to include the plastic bags, or if I should not have them at all.
Option 1 is to paint the bags in acrylic or gauche on a separate piece of canvas and Velcro them to the  large ink painting. Below are the blueprint sketches I made for the frame, which should be started this Monday. I will begin dismantling the pallets either Thursday or Friday.
Option 2 is to turn bags into sculptures and put them on the painting.
Option 3 is to build a wire tree and have it sitting in the circle of the painting with tattered bags attached to it.
3a. branches and some bags can be seen from outside of the painting
3b. the tree can't be seen unless you are standing inside and viewing the painting.
I am not sure what I want to do with this part yet, but I do not want to paint the bags directly onto the large canvas.

Kelsey Rawson update

I am still unsure about where this piece is going to go.  Sticking to my idea of the eyes showing whose viewpoint is portrayed, this figure will not have distinct eyes.  Now I am currently working on the background and making it a more interesting piece.  I want the piece to show motion and a constant unbalance of action and emotion.

I am pleased with the progress of this piece.  As I said in the critique, the central figure with eyes will be the only one to have eyes and he will be the most defined.  I like how the rest of the figures show motion and don't seem to be paying attention to him.  I will continue to go into this piece and add more detail with the colors and characteristics of the central figure and some value to some of the other figures.

I am happier with this face on the left person. Once the faces are more dry I plan on glazing over the top to blend the two faces closer to a common color; more purple on the green face and more green on the purple face.  I am not sure now what I think of the pointing hand.  I believe the pointing hand worked better when it was against a figure of a similar color so it didn't contradict as much.  Another idea I had to emphasize that they are talking about their office mate, is to make the purple person look out of the corner of their eyes instead of at the person in green they are listening too.  I am anxious to see how this turns out and I believe it will make for a stronger piece.

Okay so I have most of the cards drawn out right now...10 are completely done, I have 31 drawn, so only a few more to go! Then it's just painting time, which is the easiest part.

I also think I'm going to do another painting dedicated to white rhinos. As of today, there are only 6 left in the world. I'm thinking of using the oils as a thin wash for the background and thickly for the figure of the rhino and a human hand.

I'm really excited to have the cards almost completely drawn, because it makes it a much less daunting task than looking at the entire blank deck and knowing I want to finish all of them.

At this point I have created two new sculptures that will compliment my main one. These two have a more dynamic form and I hope to create a much deeper concept from their styles. My next plan is to create a few more completely hollow sculptures as I move into creating my stop action animation. As for my projection surface, I have put it on hold due to some complications with warping; these issues will be resolved over thanksgiving break.

Laura Cinicola- Landscapes with Person! YAY

So I have done a few more photo shoots with my model and after some trial and error I think things are moving along more swimmingly. I hit a bit of a rough patch but I think I am getting back on track. These images are what I have been working on. They're not necessarily finished. I 'm really hoping for some feedback on these. I think that will really help me move forward. I am noticing that I have to try a little more with not having her face one side more than others and maybe to add more vertical than horizontal landscapes too but those I am still working out how to have her interact within them and still work on them in general. So yeah that's about it. Comments are always welcome. -Laura

Sarah Sipe progress

This one needs work around the forehead and the eye. I also have to blend in the shading across the nose.
For this one I am unsure about the color for the hair.
This one is pretty much done I think. Debating whether to add words in the white space or not.

Scanning. - Laura Brennan

For the last several days, I have been working on putting together my application for the SPE Student Awards for Innovations in Imaging.  Tonight I'll be submitting these 5 tintypes and keeping my fingers crossed that I get the opportunity to go to the 2015 SPE National Conference in New Orleans in the Spring.
With that said, I've spent so many hours sitting at a computer cleaning up the dust spots that appeared on the scans. In the next few weeks, I think I'll be scanning in the rest of my tintypes and touching them up. The strobe lights are currently being used by the Advanced Digital class in the DCOM studio, so I figured I'd take this time to make sure I have digital copies of everything I've produced so far.
