Emma Daniels' Post #1

Over the summer I researched how to print images on nature. By that I mean, printing images in the darkroom from film negatives onto surfaces such as leaves, rocks, and wood. I was successful with wood using liquid light, semi successful with rocks using cyanotype. Leaves were unsuccessful.

Here are examples:

These past two weeks I have been setting up a darkroom space, collecting nature such as different types of leaves, flat rocks, and wood. I plan to find a way to pain the rocks a lighter color so that when I print the photograph, highlights can be seen.
I've also been trying out a new process for putting an image on a leaf. The chlorophyll process, which uses photosynthesis to leave an image. I used a very light in color leaf which was a fail on my part. My next step is to find darker leaves.

 Here are my results:

I first started with canvas just messing around with the paints. Then I started working with paper to see what patterns and paints I liked to use. Today I started working with fabric.

SAMI'S FIRST POST !!!

Hello World,

These first two weeks have mostly been dedicated to research and spending time evolving my concept. I've been looking at other photographers such as Annelen Roe, Nik Lee, and Maria Svarbova. I've also been looking at art movements such as minimalism and performance art for inspiration.

I'm very interested in architecture, dramatic lighting, vibrant colors, geometric shapes, and very symmetrical compositions. I've been shooting and exploring these interests, as well as the concept of ephemerality I had originally presented.

As of now I am realizing that I do not need to stress and perfect my concept, but instead find it and strengthen it along the way.

For now I will continue to explore the way I can evoke the feeling of ephemerality.

Here is what I shot this week: (I hope you can gather which images belong to which concept)

Love,
Sami

P.S. Don't drink the kool-aid

Connor Gunsser ~ Is this right?

Yep, so this is.. well he doesn't have a name yet.  But this is just the rough sketch of what my sculpture will ultimately end up being like.  I'm trying to focus on an appearance of discomfort more than just a gross-out.  So I'm trying to incorporate some disjointed body parts, fears like trypophobia and the uncanny near human-ness, and a vaginal-like mouth area because, lesbi honest, vaginas are p scary, fam.  The figures are rough here, but they aren't as important as figuring out their position at the moment.  That's all for now.

So basically I've been working on this drawing for a week or two now and I think it's a good starting point to portraying my idea of technology and its control on the human body, as you see the phone is a blank space and its wires are connected to the mind.. I plan on doing more drawings like this in the next few weeks before I really dive into the project and start doing photography.
